West Bengal Police got a big success on Saturday. Police raided a call center in Bidhannagar on the outskirts of Kolkata and arrested 5 people on charges of running illegal businesses through cryptocurrency. They also seized cryptocurrency worth Rs 48 lakh. According to the police, investigators raided a call center in the Sapoorji housing complex a month ago. Illegal activities were going on there under the guise of an international call center. This thing has come to the fore in the action taken by the Techno City police station.
Kolkata Police has arrested 5 people. One of them is Rohit Sharma, a resident of Narayanpur. He is 26 years old. Apart from him, Mohammad Zahid Hussain, a resident of Narkeldanga, has also been arrested. Apart from this, 3 more people are trapped by the police.
On investigation, the police came to know that money was being transacted through cryptocurrencies under the garb of call center operations. That money was being used illegally. Techno City police station then contacted the binary exchange and made arrangements to confiscate the money. Total 3 accounts have been frozen.
The total amount in these three accounts was around 48 lakhs. Police is taking necessary steps to return this money to its rightful place. Also, they are trying to find more such accounts. More information about illegal activities is being gathered by interrogating the detained people.
Also, more efforts are being made to permanently close more such accounts which are under the radar. There have been many reports of illegal call centers in the areas of Salt Lake and Bidhannagar. With the help of these illegal call centers, money is siphoned off citing software help abroad.
